When Owen pulled up in front of her building, Lynne felt a pang of sadness. She didn't want to see him leave. When he hugged her, Lynne closed her eyes and hugged him back just as tightly. It was a little like she subconsciously thought if she held Owen tight enough, he wouldn't leave. That, of course, was ridiculous, but she pushed the realization away and just held him, hating that she had nowhere else to go for the day to take her mind off the fact that she knew she'd miss him when he went.
"I'll call you. I mean that."
Lynne pulled away and looked him in the eye. "I believe you," she whispered before leaning close and kissing him full on the mouth. If he had to go, she was going to make it damn worth his while to come back.
