((Cont. from "Under a Bloodless Moon"))

They got back to the Hub in almost record time, given their location - then again, it was the middle of the night, so that probably wasn't too surprising; there weren't many cars on the road, and anyway Jack had little regard for the more ordinary of civil ordinances, such as, well, traffic laws. In other words, he drove above the speed limit and had a slight tendency to pretend that stop signs didn't exist.

But the team was used to that by now.

Bringing the body in from the car via the vehicle entrance was short work quickly done, and when they had it in the med bay / autopsy room, Jack stood by the rail up the stairs, leaning on it to get a better look when the body bag was opened.

"Let's hope we get some good news this time," he commented.

Ianto hastily went to make coffee, he was sure they would all need it before they could begin trying to figure out what had killed that person and why.

He placed the mugs, filled with hot steaming strong scented coffee, on the tray and came back down, placing the tray on one of the deks nearer the med bay.

"Coffee's ready." He said softly, picking one mug for himself. Hmmm it smelled good, and it would warm up his feet in no time. Ianto climbed up the stairs to the rail where Jack was leaning, and stood beside him, handing him a mug as well. There was little else he could do, the doctor in the house would have to "do his thing" now.

Owen looked at the body on the table, prodding it with assorted instruments and taking different readings.

He had extracted the item the corpse was holding and set it aside.

Once Gwen had taken off her jacket and washed her hands she joined the others in and medbay.
A tray of coffee was there waiting for them all, grabbing a cup she went to lean next to Ianto, ad watch Owen work.
Owen pulled the object from the corpse's hand, "Owen, what is it?"

"Owen, what is it?"

Owen looked up at Gwen, then looked at the object he had set aside. "It's a spool of thread," he said, sighing heavily. He stepped over to it and picked it up gingerly, turning it over in his hands. "Just like the others." He put it down and looked back up to Gwen, "Any idea what it might mean?"

"Any idea what it might mean?"

Gwen put her hand out to take the spool of thread.

"I don't know, from what I've read in the files and from what I've seen except for this case I have no idea. Is it just normal thread? Have we tested any of them?"

Ianto took a glance at the thread as Gwen held it, curious.

"It looks just like any thread. Nothing out of the ordinary on the reports, either. It's just...thread. If this is a tailor serial killer, I will quit my job." Ianto said, rolling his eyes.

Jack took the offered mug with a nod of thanks, then addressed the others with a shrug. "Just regular thread," he confirmed, "Maybe from a craft store or something. No idea. But it's been the same with all the other deaths, too - just a spool of red thread. Which is a funny color choice, but otherwise.."

It was something itching at the back of his mind, a question he didn't have the answer to. He knew, vaguely, that red string was something significant (he'd read something about it, oh, ages ago), but he couldn't place why it was present here. And there was something niggling in his memory, like he ought to know.

"I think this has happened before," he commented, more to himself than the others. "Maybe it's in the archives." Thinking aloud as he tried to place where he'd seen this before. Must have been decades ago.

Ianto dazed off thinking about CSI, or any of these police shows that were everywhere these days, in which one of them would be able to analyze the thread and figure out its date and brand just by looking at it under a microscope. As it was, it would be nice to know where the thread had come from, even who had bought it, of course, but not possible.

"I've never heard of anything like this. Must have been before I was born..." Ianto commented, adding "The only reference to thread that comes to mind is in Greek Mythology, the Moirae, who begin a new thread as a new life begins, and cut the thread as someone's life ends."
